The Assembly Square Review!

The Assembly Square, set 10255, has been a set that I’ve been so excited to review! The Assembly Square has 4,002 pieces, eight minifigures (including the fairly new baby!), is over 13 inches in height, 14 inches in width, and 9 inches deep, and celebrates the 10th anniversary of LEGO® Modular Buildings! This set is super detailed and has hidden “easter eggs” that hint to previous modular sets!

The First Floor

The Café

The first floor features a bakery with a cash register, shelving, and sweet pastries with a large wedding cake! There’s also a florists shop with garden tools, flower bouquets, a blue and yellow macaw! In addition, there’s a café which has seating for its customers, an espresso machine, and some tasty sweets!

The café is like the Café Corner due to the fact that it’s a cafe on a corner! The interior of the café is detailed, with a counter and a coffee maker and some storage for some ingredients! This is certainly a café that would be perfect for meeting a friend, working independently, or just having a nice, relaxing break!

Of course, to relax you might want to be sitting down. The café has cushioned seats and has a nice view of the sidewalk and street!

Here’s a look at what the café looks like from the outside!

Overall, the café was a fun build! There are still many other features involved in this 4,002 piece set! The front of the café with the sun and the steaming cup was also a fun build and is enjoyable to look at. The sign definitely screams out good morning! The floor also uses very earthy tones, navy blue, brown, and a lighter shade of blue.

The Florist’s Shop

The florist shop is certainly one of my favorite stores in this set. Although it is small and doesn’t have as many objects in it, it is fun to look at and the colors used in the flower shop are vibrant and happy! This shop uses colors and pieces from the Brick Bank! It uses transparent green and has two brick-built roses as its entrance sign!

From minifigure-level, you can see a happy cashier and a plant that has two leaves, as though it has just sprouted! From the outside, the use of purple for the awning makes the building pop out, too.

In addition to the exterior design, the inside also is colorful and vibrant, with bouquets of red and purple flowers! There’s also a newly colored macaw that is peacefully hanging around in the store!

The Bakery

The bakery is also an exciting shop in the Assembly Square. It is pretty small with no seating but it is detailed and uses a unique technique for its windows. Instead of using a window piece a transparent garage piece is used for its two large windows, similar to the windows the Town Hall uses.

From this view, you can see a large wedding cake which I will talk more about when we look at the interior!

There are many items in the bakery. The wedding cake has a bride and groom on top of the cake and has a gold design.

There are also more pastries on the shelf and has an oven, which references the oven from the Parisian Restaurant. There are more pastries which are displayed under the glass, too!

There’s also a back door leading to a small space, and stairs leading outside to the floors above!

The Second Floor

The second floor is equipped with a music store with a buildable drum set, two guitars and saxophone. There’s also a photo studio with an old classic camera that’s adjustable, and a dentist’s office with a reclinable chair for its patients, a sink, and a waiting area!

The Music Shop

The music shop is one flight above the cozy café. There are two guitars for sale, one buildable drum set, and a saxophone, as well as a counter with a cash register on it. There are stairs leading to the third floor, too, which is shown below!

The music shop, personally, is not my favorite part of the building due to its feeling of emptiness. The only instruments in this shop are two guitars, a saxophone and a drum set. Although the drum set was a fun build the store still seems quite empty, especially since the saxophone and two guitars are not buildable.

Despite the fact that this floor seems a bit empty, the drum set is still a very cool build and certainly fills a lot of the space. From this view you can also see the color scheme, a sand brown, gray-blue, and medium nougat. This color scheme refers to the Pet Shop. Again, I thought this floor was more empty compared to the other shops but the drum set was a good use of space and was a fun build.

The Photo Studio

The photo studio is a fun room to look at and can be a good playable area to pose minifigures in front of the camera! There’s a classic camera on a tripod which is adjustable, a portrait or someone, the same portrait found in the Brick Bank, and a small storage table with camera equipment on it.

This photo was taken by the LEGO® Group.

This floor was fun to build and the space is utilized well! I love the camera and the backdrop! It looks realistic and the camera was a great build, and as I said before, is adjustable! It can angle down or up more and can be easily removed to look at the camera closer.

The windows are also closed, as shown by the opaque windows.

Overall, I really enjoyed this room and especially loved the camera and the backdrop! The space was used really well, too!

The Dental Office

The dentist’s office is certainly one of my favorite rooms! It is large and has an exclusively printed window with a little joke, “Prevent Yellowing”! This was definitely one of my favorite rooms, mostly due to the amazing reclining chair for the dentist’s patient!

As you can see, the chair is very detailed and is realistic to what many dental offices look like! The addition of the bright light that is used during an appointment is a great feature, along with the sink, the cups nearby, and the sharp and horrifying needles and tools that are by your side!

The sink build is also great, using a transparent blue windows piece to make it look as if water is in there.

The seating area is also very nice, though it doesn’t have that much sitting space. To me, it works with no wall between the “working area” and the waiting area. Though, if I were a patient I probably wouldn’t want anyone in the waiting area! In addition, if there were a wall between the two areas it’s increase the price of the set and the waiting area would feel very cramped.

I really love this room of the set and it’s one of my favorites! It’s very realistic to many dental offices and the colors chosen for the chair were perfect for a dentist office!

The Third Floor

The third floor has two rooms left to discover, as well as a small deck area with a grill and seating! There’s a small studio apartment and has details that I absolutely love (which I want to leave as a surprise), and a dance studio with a mirror piece and a piano!

The Dance Studio

The dance studio, like the music shop, does not have much in it. For this room, though, it makes sense because it should be open that way there’s space to dance. There’s a beautiful mirror piece included, similar to the Detective’s Office. The piano is beautiful and the mirror is perfect and functions as a real mirror!

The piano is very detailed and even has three pedals that many pianos have! From the image above you can also see the mirror. This view doesn’t do the mirror justice!

The mirror, as shown, functions like a real mirror! As seen above, there’s also a bar in front of the mirror as there usually is in many dance studios. This floor is extremely realistic and uses the space perfectly! I can definitely imagine a studio exactly like this! There’s also a small balcony as seen in the reflection from the mirror!

That tops off building 1!

This image above is of building 1, which has many references to previous modular sets. It’s also very appealing from the outside and the use of the blue profile piece adds texture that makes the building stand out.

The Terrace

The terrace is a perfect place to sit with friends on a sunny day and to make some food out on the grill! The terrace connects to the outside of the apartment which makes it easily accessible, too. As shown below, there is a grill and a stove and seating for two along with holders for pans and cups!

There terrace seems like a comfy area which is pretty private which is nice.

The detail underneath the stove and the grill shows great care and attention to detail, too.

The Studio Apartment

The studio apartment is my favorite part of the set. The space is well used and it’s fun, especially if you love to make layouts using sets and MOCs! Within the studio apartment, there’s bathroom with a toilet, a kitchen, a train layout, sets on shelves, the Café Corner set’s package, and makes reference to the VW camper van, Mini Cooper, a large Eiffel Tower model, a built Café Corner, Market Street, and the Green Grocer.

As you can see, this fan of Lego has a real set up! The image on the bottom right shoes the Eiffel Tower in the corner, the VW Camper Van on the shelf, to the right of that the Mini Cooper, below is the Café Corner, and the largest of them all, the train layout!

One of the most amazing features of this floor (and there are many!) is the foldable sofa bed! It is fun to fold up and down and is easy to fold and will not break or come apart from the studs when being folded or opening! It really makes space in the apartment and because of the choice of color (red) it really stands out. In the image below you can see the kitchen, a picture of a bridge, (from left to right on the shelf) the Café Corner, Market Street, and Green Grocer set. This image also shows the sofa bed folded up!

The sofa bed looks great folded up as a sofa and down as a bed. It also really pops and the choice of red looks great and really brightens up the room and works well with the green of the train layout and the small amounts of blue in the apartment.

There’s also a bathroom with, unfortunately, no shower, but there’s a toilet.

It works well with the space and this could be a fun storage space that this person is renting or could live in!

This set was a success in my book and had a lot of features that referenced to past sets as a 10th anniversary set should do. It was enjoyable to build and used many techniques that help bring new ideas to mind and new ideas of ways to incorporate more details in MOCs!

Minifigures

In total there were nine minifigures, if you include the baby, that is! The only new torso print is the dentist’s torso. There are also no new accessories, hair pieces, or leg prints. The selection of minifigures is great and they can be easily re-arranged!

Cheese wedge pieces were used here to add texture to the building, along with 1×2 tile pieces. This color scheme refers to the Detective’s Office.

Thanks for reading! Feel free to leave comments and feedback and come back soon to check for more updates!
